Question
I purchased this clock in the early 70'S. The clock's pendulum stops working after about 30 seconds. I tried to wind it up with the key but it seems very tight and I cannot turn it. I know my husband replaced the spring about ten years ago but it is not working now.
The model number is
78
Cuckoo Clock MFG
341-020
11cm
________
200.78
Made in Germany

Thank you

Answer
Hi Norma,
These clock movements usually run for about 15 to 18 years and are then worn out. Your movement was made in 1978 and if it has been running most of that time its life has probably run its course. Of course I can't tell what the problem is without inspecting the clock but it probably needs rebuilding or replacement. The movements are still being made and they are about $200. In most cases it would cost more to rebuild it.
If you think the clock has not been run most of the time you have had it you could try lubricating it. There are lots of pages online showing how to do this.
Let me know if you need more help.
