Question
Hi William,

I would like to build my own grandfather clock and would like to ask your advise. What is the best internal clock that I can buy for this grandfather clock that will have a good sound and also have a moon dial? A friend suggested Urgos but I noticed out one of your answers that Urgos went out of business.

Thank you in advance,

Willem.

Answer
Before you start building a clock you need to develop your ideas as to what you want the clock to look like.  Most importantly you need to decide, are you going to build a case then seek a movement or are you going to buy a movement and build the case around the movements working requirements.  Either alternative requires a totally different approach.  I suggest you acquire catalogs from various kit providers to study which approach you wish to take.  In any case you will find they offer movements for different requirements.  To name a few such firms, Emperor Clock Company, Klockit, Keninger etc.  I wish you success in your project.  Regards WJP
