Clock rear
QUESTION: I have an English mantle clock from the 20s or 30s (it does say "Foreign" at the bottom of the metal dial).

It strikes once on the half hour as it should. But when it strikes the hour on the hour the count is wrong for some hours. From 7 to 12 it is correct but from 1 to 5 or 6 it strikes an extra hour. Any ideas? Thanks,.

ANSWER: rack and smail is out of adjustment on the front of the clock mechanism itself. Minor job for a pro -- are you going to take the clock apart yourself?

QUESTION: Thanks for the prompt response.
Is there any online how to with pics? Or a book you can recommend?
I have been unable to find a clock repair place locally that is either professional or can fix it without a 6 month wait.
I am highly mechanically inclined and good with tools.

Answer
if you want to tackle this particular job - I can walk you through it, with your ability to take photos.

as to learning the trade from a book to save money if some other problems arise-- be better to not quit your day job and just save your money to pay someone if needed. Try the shelf at your local library- that is where I started 30 years ago! free, too!
