Elliott of London Ship\'s Clock
Elliott of London Ship
QUESTION: I have an Elliott ship's clock that has its 'bells' confused.
Can you tell me the procedure to reset it? It was my father's
and must be about 50yrs old. I have a vague memory of him
moving the hands forward and back in a special sequence to get
the first and last dog watches ringing at the right time

ANSWER: run the time through a few hours and tell me eactly how many bells you are getting for the time shown on the dial.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: 07:00-1 bell; 07:30-2 bells; 08:00-3 bells; 08:30-4 bells;
09:00-5 bells; 09:30-6 bells; 10:00-7 bells; 10:30-8 bells;
11:00-1 bell (start of 1st Dog Watch);11:30-2 bells; 12:00-3 bells; 12:30-4 bells; 13:00-1 bell(start of last Dog Watch); 13:30-2 bell; 14:00-3 bells; 14:30-8 bells; 15:00-1 bell; etc

Answer
at 8:00 hour shown by the hands:

remove the nut holding the minute hand on the hand shaft.(pliers?)

move the hour hand ahead 1.5 hours (to between 9 and 10)

replace the minute hand 180 degrees (point at #6)

at 8:00 it rings the bells for 9:30---so set the hands as shown above to then read 9:30.
