the pocket watch is wound with a key that is missing.

Answer
I normally do not field questions relating to watches.  Per my resume, the item that brought you to me, I respond to questions relating to mechanical clocks.  In this instance I can help you.  The information you provided relates to the watch case ONLY.  It has nothing to do with the Elgin movement.  Remove or open the case back and you will be confronted by the movements backplate.  On this plate you will find stamped thereon, the serial number, the maker and most likely, the number of jewels, positions adjusted to etc.  Copy down and send me all the information stamped or engraved on the backplate.  With that data I can tell you a great deal of information about your watch.  Regards WJP
