Question
QUESTION: I have a Hentschel Tempus Fugit grandfather clock bought in 1986 (I believe).  Inherited.  How do you re-install the chime rods?

ANSWER: Dona, please clarify the question. Are the chime rods in the block still?
I need as much informationas possible.
Thanks,
Michael

QUESTION: Michael,
Unfortunately the chime rods are not in the block and I don't even know which end goes in the block (tapered end or other end).  There doesn't seem to be any way to "attach" the rods to the block. Perhaps I should not attempt to try this at home so to speak.
Thank you,
Dona

Answer
Your chime rods have broken off of the screw that is left in the block and they can't be repaired. At the chime rod factory they are pounded into that screw. I have known many people who have tried to drill out the screw and press the rod into it but the sound is always dull or dead.
Your options are to buy a new block with rods already installed or buy new rods and put them in your block. If more than two are broken I would go for the new block if one can be found. Replacement rods must be tuned by cutting them to the proper length to get the musical note. This is a lot of work.
