Clocks, Watches/pocket watches

Question
Why do some pocket watches have the stem at 3:00 or 6:00 rather than 12:00?

Answer
Ms. Camille,

This was not for functional purposes but for aesthetics.

There is no benefit to having the stem at any location because
wearing the watch is done in the same fashion in all cases.

Incidentally, that is not the case with watches that are worn
on lapels.  Ages ago nurses wore lapel watches.  They could flip
the watch up to read the time.  If you were to look at their watch
while standing in front of the nurse, the time would be upside down
for you.

Again, that is not the case with pocket watches though.

Kind regards,

Melvin
