Question
i have just inherited my mother's clock. it is a waltham 31 day chime clock, a wall model. it works beautifully, looks great but the constant TICKING of the pendalum is TOO LOUD> keeps us up all night, i love the clock but need to muffle the sound, any repair ideas? i truly thank you in advance.

Answer
You will need to place acoustical material in the case to dampen the sound.  Generally ticking is ticking.  I rather suspect that within a reasonable short time the ticking will become part of your natural background and you will only notice it when it is not there.  In some instances a clock repair person can reduce the noise by adjusting the byte of the escapement.  Regards WJP
