Clocks, Watches/Ansonia clock not chiming

Question
I recently bought an Ansonia clock with alarm but the hour chime does not strike. I can see the hammer move but no sound. I was told that you have to turn the chime on, but how?

Answer
Most Ansonia usually have a lever protruding through the back or side of the case that is clearly marked SET.  If your clock does not have his feature, I would need to inspect it determine how set is achieved.  I suspect however, based upon your narrative, that the alarm hammer is to far away from the bell.  If that be the case the hammer handle would need to be bent so the hammer can make proper contact with the bell.  Regards WJP
