Clocks, Watches/Viking Clock no longer chimes

Question
We just moved to a new home and when I setup my Viking Grandfather Clock, it no longer chimes. Did I perhaps put it in this mode by accident? Bother weights are at the top and the center is keeping time perfectly. Thanks so much. John

Answer
When a clock does not run for an extended time the lubricants often times emulsify with dirt that has collected on the pivots etc., causing excessive friction to develope.  The solution is to have new lubricant installed.  That failing the clock would need cleaning and adjustments, possibly repair.  Regards WJP
