Clocks, Watches/Anvil Mantle Clocks

Question
I recently restored a much neglected Anvil Mantle Clock. It is marked British Anvil Perivale London 51525.
It has a westminster chime that sounds on the quarter hour and is now in reasonable working order. The clock did not have the original pendulum when I found it and although I have jerry rigged a temporary pendulum, I would appreciate your help in trying to either locate a facsimile or at least the correct dimensions and weight. I asked the same question in early November but did not receive an answer. Your help is greatly appreciated
regards
giovanni

Answer
Giovanni, I seem to remember your name, but I can find no record of a question to me concerning the clock in the Allexperts archives.  If I had received a question and did not answer it, Allexperts would have reminded me and it would have been monitored until it was answered.  I apologize if there was a glitch in the system.  If you had sent an email to my personal email address, I was hit by a virus and all my emails for mid-Oct through mid-Dec were erased.

I did have a Perivale Anvil that I sold a couple of months ago.  I do not remember the configuration of the pendulum.  If you can send me a clear photo of the back of the clock movement, I might be able to determine the type of pendulum you need.  My shop email address is below.  I will be on vacation until the first of the year, and will still answer questions, but I will not have all my research and reference material.

Note concerning questions not related to Allexperts:  Because of my commitment to answering Allexperts questions within a prescribed time limit and the large backlog of clock work at my shop, I regret that I cannot answer personal email questions on a timely basis, other than Allexperts follow up questions.  I will try to answer these emails as soon as I can. Thank you for your patience.

Expertise

As much as I would like to offer values of clocks, I am not a certified appraiser and will not venture into giving an unresearched guess. There is very little published information on what I consider to be the value of "modern production clocks". Considerations are what the clock originally sold for, the condition of the case and movement, and particularly the area in which you live, the demand and the economy. ALSO, WATCHES ARE NOT MY FIELD. However, I can advise the clock owner on proper maintenance of a clock to keep it running, small corrections and adjustments and how to move a clock without damaging it. I can also advise on obtaining parts for clocks. It helps if you can send any information on the clock movement which is usually found on the back plate of the movement. I have been a clockmaker for about 35 years and was plant engineer in the mid 90's and later operations and engineering consultant at Emperor Clock Company in Fairhope, Alabama. I now have my own clock shop.

Experience

One of my greatest accomplishments was traveling to China to assist a clock factory in building clocks to the standards which we required. With the proper specifications and quality control, some beautiful clock cases were built. The factory people from the wood carvers to the plant manager were very congenial, friendly and I left a lot of wonderful friends when I returned from my trips.
