Question
Hi,
I am trying to identify a clock that I have. I was told it was off of an old steamship. This clock really confuses me. The case and back look new, but the face looks old. There is a sticker on the back that seems to indicate that it is newer. It almost seems that the name on the face is hand painted and possibly something else was there previously. This is a double wind with pendulum. There is a bottom door that opens and the pendulum can be seen. Old or new I love the clock, but was hoping that you might be able to tell me something about it. Thank you so much for your time,
Sue
AnswerSorry I won't be of much help. First of all a pendulum clock would NEVER be used on a ship. A pendulum absolutely require a stable base. If indeed the clock has any connection to the Luckenback steam ship line it would have been in an on shore office. I sure like the looks of your clock. It is one anyone would be proud to have. I suspect it might be Seth Thomas. To determine who made the clock and when it was built I would need for you to send me a digital picture of the clock movements brass backplate. To gain access to the backplate you would need to remove the back of the clocks case. Regards WJP
