Clocks, Watches/watch mystery

Question
Hello Sir,
I have a 1908 Hampden open face #2458164 in a Crescent case
#35687 which seems to be nickle. (moon and star trade mark alone)

From what I've read Deuber and Hampden were suing Crescent.
How did this movement wind up in this case?
Thanks so much!

Answer
Timothy,

Watch movements were purchased separately from cases and the watchmaker would put them together.

So the prospective customer would select both the movement and the case he wanted.

It was also common to have the watch movement re-cased after the first case wore out or got damaged.

Kind regards

Melvin
