Question
Welby Brass Anniversary Shelf Mantle Clock Germany
Welby Brass Anniversar
i was helping my parents did throuh stuff the other day and came upon this Welby Brass Anniversary Shelf Mantle Clock Germany she purchaced back in 1982 or 83 to give to her parents as Christmas gift.

it has alot of dust but all the moving parts still run smooth. all we can read on it is Welby which is is on the face and made in germany on the back and bottom. there is more writing on the back but i cant make out what it says and some of it i think is in german.

if you dont mind can you please tell me what you know or what website i can go to to find information?

the only websites that pop up are selling sites with no info except SOLD but i've only run across 1 of this particular model with a brass face.

by the way took the dome off because of the dust. thats all i see with one little scratch.

thank you for your time

Answer
Welby did not make the clock- they had them made by various German companies.

If you have a clock marked Elgin which was made by Elgin Clock & Home Products or Welby Division of Elgin National Industries which was located in Chicago, Illinois, please be advised that this company went out of business many years ago. Many of their products were imported by them in later years and the parts used in them were only available through the manufacturer

Elgin aka Elgin National Industries of former Elgin National Watch company in Elgin,IL, who closed back in 1964,had their clocks made by others toward the end, under Elgin Clock & Home Products or Welby Division of Elgin. Welby, the German connection, also made identical bracket clocks going back to the early 60's under their own name
