Clocks, Watches/30 yr. Old Ridgeway grandfather clock

The serial number I have is 83001093.....APPROX. what would it cost to replace?

Thank you

Denise, I don't know if you want to insure it, have a clock which was damaged, or you just want to get another clock.  From the information you have give me, if I am not mistaken, the serial number does indicate the year of manufacture which starts with "83", which would be 1983, or 35 years old.  As Ridgeway was bought our by Howard Miller, I know of no information they have on these "modern" vintage clocks. Are you looking for a used or new replacement?  You could check locally for any clock shops or stores that sell new grandfather clocks similar to yours, or you could Google grandfather clocks and find one as far as the style and type of movement used. For a used clock you could go to an On-line auction site such as eBay to find a similar used one.  Use the Completed Listings, not the offering price or Buy It Now price.  This will tell you what they are really going for in the area in which they are being sold.  Very few floor clocks are being offered out of their selling area because of the expense of packing and shipping. Sometimes you can find them in local listings or Craigslist.

Sorry I cannot tell you more, but I don't have much information to go on, particularly not knowing the going prices in what area in which you might live.

As I am not a certified appraiser I do not give values of clocks over the Internet. There is very little published information on what I consider to be the value of "modern production clocks". However, considerations are what the clock originally sold for, the condition of the case and movement, and particularly the area in which you live, the demand and the economy. ALSO, WATCHES ARE NOT MY FIELD. However, I can advise the clock owner on proper maintenance of a clock to keep it running, small corrections and adjustments and how to move a clock without damaging it. I can also advise on obtaining parts for clocks. As clock case model label numbers are difficult to relate to the movements, it is helpful if you can give me the information usually found on the movements themselves. Modern clock movements usually have the information on the back plate of the movement. I have been a clockmaker for about 40 years and was plant engineer in the mid 90's and later operations and engineering consultant at Emperor Clock Company in Fairhope, Alabama. I now have my own clock shop in Prattville, Alabama.

One of my greatest accomplishments was traveling to China to assist a clock factory in building clocks to the standards which we required at Emperor. With the proper specifications and quality control, some beautiful clock cases were built. The factory people from the wood carvers to the plant manager were very congenial, friendly and I left a lot of wonderful friends when I returned from my trips.
