Clocks, Watches/Grandfather Clock

Question
Someone in my family who shall remain nameless, was going to wind the clock by pulling on the chains but pulled much too hard and the weights were stuck at the top of the clock near the gears.  I looked at it several times but was afraid to screw the clock up any further so I took the weights off as well as the pendulum.  This happened over 15 years ago, the clock is a beautiful piece of furniture but I wish it would work.
Thank you for your time,
Maura

Answer
Answer me a couple of questions and we will try to get the old gentleman running.
1.  Could you re-hang the weights, given the chains might have been pulled up to far?
2.  Please open the back of your case and copy down and send me all the information that is stamped on the movements backplate.  This information will identify the exact movement you have, enabling me to literally see the movement in my minds eye for making diagnosis etc.
