Clocks, Watches/HAC mantle running too fast

Question
I have a H.A.C. 14 day strick Mantle No. 4001. It has been running well for the last 2 months in my house in Scotland. Six days ago I moved the clock to my house in Ireland. I set it up after 3 days.  It is now running fine, chiming on the hour and the half, but gaining time at more than an hour in 24.  I have adjusted the bob almost to the end of the threaded rod but it make no appreciable difference.  I removed the pendulum when I moved the clock. When I went to refix the pendulum it fell to the wooden floor (about 2 feet)but seems to be ok.

Answer
Hi Tony,
Gaining more than an hour per day is probably not a regulating problem.
You should check the attachment of the pendulum. The pendulum (or pendulum leader if it has one)should be hooked fully onto the cross-bar of the suspension spring. The crutch (a brass strip that comes out of the movement, descends vertically, and ends in a horizontal bar about an inch long) bar must go through the hole in the pendulum or pendulum leader; make sure it is not resting alongside it.
It is possible that the threaded end of the pendulum got pushed too deeply into the pendulum rod (if they are separate parts), but not very likely. The most likely cause is that the crutch bar is not going through the hole in the pendulum or pendulum leader.
