Question
We need the D-battery movement for a Pendulum Movement School House Clock.
This clock was purchased ~1982.
Are any available?  If so, where?

Answer
Hi Bill,
Battery pendulum movements, with and without chimes, are available from clock materials houses such as Timesavers and Merritts Antiques. It is unlikely that you will be able to find the exact movement that you have now. Generally, you select a movement and then do some minor modifications to the case or mounting system to accommodate the new movement.
If your clock has a D cell, it may have mechanical chime hammers that strike on actual metal chime rods (rather than an electronically generated chime sound). There are a few of these still available, but not many. They often require more modifications, or do not fit due to size differences.
In my experience, the Hermle electronic chime movements duplicate an authentic mechanical chime sound the best.
    Thanks for your question.  Martin
