when the clock strikes the hour it keeps striking, lets say at 12 it might strike 15 times or more.

It sounds like the clock needs cleaning.  The ratchet pawl governing the number of hammer blows is hanging up.  Regards WJP

Whoa there!!  Lets stop and take another look at this.  In your initial inquiry you did not mention the clock had been cleaned recently.  In terms of a clocks life a year is recent.  Generally a clock should not require cleaning more than every five years.  I do recommend annual inspections and tune ups.  In your situation, and if the work had been done properly, the clock is probably suffering from lubrication fatigue or perhaps a weakened spring.  I suspect a tad of fresh lubricant would restore you clock to good health.  Regards WJP
