Clocks, Watches/Old Westclox wall clock lever

Question
Hello and thanks! Someone gave us an old Westclox electric wall clock with a lever on the side which starts it moving. Alas, the clock seems to stop on its own within a short time, instead of just "when the power is interrupted", as it says on the back. Is the lever on a hair trigger? If so, is there any way to disable? Any other ideas?
Thanks again,
Michael

Answer
Hi Michael,
I doubt that the problem is in the starter shaft. The clock is probably stopping because the motor is worn out. Replacement motors are hard to find, but a few are still available from clock supply houses. You will need the numbers from the motor or rotor to try to match up a replacement motor for your clock.
