Clocks, Watches/Sligh Quartz clock

Question
I have had on my office credenza shelf, a "dome shaped" wooden case Sligh quartz clock with a round clock face. Model 510-1-AN, movement 6743, Reg.17-633-6006A.
The hands will not move even with new batteries. This was not an expensive clock, but I would miss having it on the shelf. My local clock repairman will not work on battery operated clocks other than to replace batteries.Where can I have it repaired, or order a new movement for the case?
Thank you for your assistance.

Answer
Hi Jean,
Quartz movements are usually easily replaceable. You can order them from a clock supply house like Timesavers, Merritts Antiques or Empire Clock. They are usually held in by a single nut underneath the hands. Sometimes the movement is also held in by double-sided tape on the front of the movement.
There is quite a variety of movements, and the main consideration is getting one that fits in the space inside your clock. You may not be able to get the exact movement that is in your clock now, but others will fit. You can often use your original hands but, if not, many sizes of hands are available. In my opinion, the best of the quartz movements is the Hermle. This movement sometimes requires a slightly larger hand shaft hole than the original. In this case, you will need to slightly enlarge the hole. You must also get a movement with the same hand shaft length as your original, otherwise the hands may either hit the dial or stick out too far.
