Question
I am trying to paint my own dial for an Ogee clock that I am restoring. I bought a case with no movement and am planning to put a 31-day key wound movement in it.  I am having a hard time finding hands that are the right size for an appropriately sized dial.  I am also open to just buying a dial, but I am having a hard time finding a source - my grandfather used to use S. La Rose.  Do you have any suggestions?  Is painting my own dial realistic?

Answer
Painting a clock dial is an art unto itself.  Whether or not you should do it yourself is your own judgement call.  Personally I would acquire a suitable commercial dial.  LaRose would be an excellent choice of source for all the materials you might need.  As an alternative I would suggest Ronell Clocks, <www.ronellclock.com>  Regards WJP
