Question
We have the above grandfather-type clock in our home.  Around the left side of the dial it reads "white, St. Michael, Westminster, Silent (which I presume are the chimes it makes).  The clock will NOT chime beyond two or three "bongs" on any of the voices no matter what time it is.  Can you tell us how to correct this?  The clock actually belongs to a friend who is a medical missionary in Honduras, but we are "clock sitting" it.  Thank you for any help you can give us.

Answer
"White" = Whitt - short for Whittington
Trend is a 20+ year old obsolete brand of case made by the Sligh Furniture Co and they are now out of the clock case business completely as well.
Probably your movement needs rebuilding or replacement. With the Hermle German movements the first thing to go is the chimes. If you pull down a bit on the right hand weight while it is chiming it should finish the chiming. Be sure the heaviest of the three weights IS INDEED ON THE RIGHT SIDE as this lack of power on the chime side will give you the same symptom as a movement needing rebuilding.
