Question
This clock was manufactured in 1987, I still keeps time and the pendulum works fine however it doesn't chime any more. We acquired this clock from my in-laws when they passed away and would like to restore the chime in memory of them. I am aware that the clock did fall off the wall one time. Any assistance you could give would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Hi Debbie,
Quartz battery movements have no repairable parts. First check to make sure that there is not a chime shutoff switch that you have not noticed. If there is none, you will have to replace the movement with a new one.
There are a number of different chime/pendulum quartz movements available from clock materials houses like Timesavers and Merritts Antiques. These are usually easy to replace, and attach to the clock by a single nut on the handshaft. Make sure you get one that will fit in the space inside the clock that held the original movement. The new movement will probably not look like the orginal one; you just need to get one that will fit. The best of these movements, in my opinion, is the Hermle 2214. It is fairly large, so make sure that it will fit in your clock.
