Question
In 1988 I had my clock cleaned and repaired. It is now in need of another repair job. Who can I send it to? Any idea as to what it might cost?

Answer
Hi Richard,
Is this a grandfather (floor) clock, or a mantle or wall clock? If it is a grandfather clock, I do not recommend sending it, or the movement, out for repair. Assembly and setup is critical to longcase clock operation, and this must be done in place by the clock repairer. Otherwise, your repaired clock may not run at all. I would look in the yellow pages under "clocks, repairing" and also ask friends and coworkers if they have used anyone whose work satisfied them. You can also look on the AWCI and NAWCC websites for clock repairers in your area.
If the clock is a mantle or small-to-medium size wall clock, you can use local repairers or search the net for mail-order repairers. Additionally, you can search under my name and "clocks" for my own mail-order repair service.
Cost varies very widely depending on the clock and clock type. If your clock has a replacement movement available, I would very strongly recommend this option over another overhaul of your old movement. You will get a brand new and probably improved movement, longer warranty, and much longer service life for a marginally greater cost.
    Thanks for your question.  Martin
