Questionmy wife has bought an old clock as described above. It keeps good time but we cannot regulate the chimes..it is chiming 4 hours ahead of actual time, we have tried letting it unwind, setting the time then rewinding but still it is chiming ahead e.g at 1.00 it chimes 5 times. Any suggestions please?

AnswerYou will need to change the position of the hour hand. Let us use your own example. It is 1:00 o'clock and the clock has struck 5 times. Stop the clock. You will need to remove both the minute hand and the hour hands from their respective tubes. Your minute hand will be secured by a taper pin and a washer or a screw. The hour hand is most likely friction fit to its tube. Pull it straight out. Now with the hour hand free replace it on its tube so that it points to 5. Make sure the hand is pressed tightly on. Now replace the minute hand, pointing it at 12. Your hand are now pointing at 5 o'clock. You can now start the clock and set it in the normal manner. Be sure to allow the clock to finish any striking at nee do before moving to the next strike sequence. Another way to do this is to simply let the clock stay stopped until it is actually 5 o'clock, then starting it. This should do you, regards WJP
TO STOP THE CLOCK SIMPLY REACH IN AND STOP THE PENDULUM
