Question
I have a pocket watch case marked wadsworth 14 karat. It   dose not say gold filled or guaranteed. My quetion is how do I tell if it is solid gold or gold filled ? Thank you for your time.

Answer
Karl,

Gold filled, G.F., guaranteed or warranted for a certain number of years, are indications it is gold filled.

In your case, no pun intended, it simply reads "14 karat". That indicates that it is solid gold.

When buying a watch and not sure, only pay the gold filled price or check using a testing kit.

Kind regards,

Melvin
