Question
I have a female(thought she was a male) cockatiel, 20 years old. When I came home today & went to her cage I noticed blood on her perch, then a Very small pool of blood w/ what looks like yolk in the center (no shell). She seems fine.Eating, drinking & hopping around as usual. What has happened? Do I need to be concerned. She has no mate.I would appreciate you thoughts.

Answer
Well you shoul be concerned it should be taken to the vet for an check up and you should tell the vet whats the case so it does not happen again.

I do not knoe where the blood come from but i do knew that ever female bird can lay egg with out a mathe which if not controlled can least to other complications such as excessice egg laying, eggbinding etc.

to me this may be case where calicum is short in you bird diet that why the egg i being laid without
an shell.

another problen you are seem to be having is that your bird is laying eggs by it self which need to be prevented by rearranging the cage remove nesting material(nest box) and ant thing that the bird seems to be masyrbation on.

When yolk is exposed it his a ground for harmful bacteria ask you vet if it is ok to yolk in the vent. If it is as him to get rid of it with somthin either buy injection sum antibacterial fluid in the vent with a syringe bottle or what ever taht should be done.

You NEED TO SUPPLEMENT YOUR BIRD'S DIET WITH  cuttle bone and a mineral block make that they are always in their cage it also keep the beak well trimmed. Th balnce die should include a mixture (which include seed, grains, dried fruits and vegetables, banana chips, pellets), fesh fruits and vegetables (research on the tyor of fruits ans vegetable to be given to you bir),Cuttlebone and mineral block and treats safe for you bird.

I AM SO PROUD TO KNOW SOME ONE LIKE YOU WHO HAVE A COCKTIEL FOR SO LONG which means that it is fully taken care of.

TAKE YOU BIRD TO THE VET IMMEDIATELY you woul rather for you bird to be safe.
