Cocker Spaniels/Do Cocker Spaniels like cats?

Question
I have a 9 year old cat and my boyfriend wants us to get a cocker spaniel.  Is this safe to do?  I'm a little worried that the puppy might go for Tibbs out of instinct.  I look forward to whoever replies.
Thanks, Steph

Answer
Puppies usually learn very quickly that "cats rule" :) so I wouldn't worry about that.  A puppy, of course, needs constant supervision anyway so it'd never be loose and alone with the kitty.

But, more than that, I'd just want to make sure you're picking the right breed for you.  cockers are high maintenance dogs - don't do well left alone all day - daily brushing - monthly professional grooming - lots of exercise, etc.

And I have two cockers and a cat - no problem.  But please do consider your lifestyle and whether you have the time to deal with a puppy.  Perhaps an older cocker from a Rescue?

If further chat would help, please don't hesitate to write again.
It's a big decision.
Best of luck,
