Cocker Spaniels - Cocker Spaniel

Expert: Delores Beck - 10/13/2009

Question
My Cocker Spaniel seems to have developed a huge tender mass on her abdomen.  When I tried to touch it she became very upset and tried to get away from me.  She is eating and eliminating well and runs around and seems otherwise generally happy.  What could possibly be wrong with her.  If you lifted her front paws the growth would be just below the breast bone.  If you have any thoughts on this PLEASE get back to me.  Thanks kindly, Ted

Answer
You need to get to the vet asap.  Your vet should aspirate it and analyze the cells.  Aspiration is pretty painless for your dog and just takes a few seconds.  But PLEASE go to your vet.
This could be something as simple as a large cyst that he/she can drain but it definitely needs medical attention.
