Question
Hi sorry to bother you and hoping you can help. We have a 7 month old golden cocker spaniel female. We have had her for 5 weeks now. She is going to puppy class and has been to the dog groomers etc and is doing really well, but we are waiting for her to have her first season so we can book her in to be spayed as the vet wants her to wait for 3 months after first season. The last few days she has been cleaning that area alot but also jumps up and spins round as if something is behind her making her jump could this be a sign that she is coming into season. Also she is crated at night and always has been never a problem but last night she started crying at 1.30am and every 30 mins after that till I came in the room? Once last problem is we have 6 cats and upstairs all is peaceful with cats and dog but downstairs is just a game of chase the cats? Any advice.

Answer
The short answer is "yes".  Going into heat is very hard on dogs.  Under NO circumstances let her outside alone.  I'm sure you have a fenced in yard, etc. but male dogs will come from miles around and get over any barrier.

Re the night scramble :) - let her sleep in your room in her crate.

Do not worry about the cats - she'll learn, as all dogs do, that cats rule !
