Question A friend of mine has a VG 1852 Bank of Upper Canada one half penny bank token and I don't have any material which lists it. It has what looks like St George slaying the dragon on one side and on the other is a crossed anchor and sword over two horns of plenty with a crown above them.Do you have any information you could share and have any idea of value? Thank you in advance. Mark Flake
Answer Hi Mark,
The Bank of Upper Canada tokens are among the most commonly seen of the Canadian pre-confederation. I'm somewhat busy right now, so I'll have to skip the background info (The Haxby catalogue as well as the Charlton Canadian tokens catalogue, and several others have info on them).
Catalogue value in Charlton is $3.
If you want the background info, I'll probably be making that one of the next articles I'll be working on for my site, so check in now and then.
