Coin Collecting - 1886 Morgan

Expert: John DeMarcus - 10/7/2007

Question
I recently purchased an 1886cc Morgan Dollar.  Iknow the first thought.  This coin came from aretired dentist who claims to hace had it for many years.  It also has a doubled 6.  186'6'.  Is there a possible Vam of this.  Am I looking at "author" status or "sucker status"  It does seem to be of less than crisp detail.  Any quick and easy reference points for clarifying?  Thanks a bunch,  Steve

Answer
Hi Steve and the first question I must ask what is the date of your Morgan dollar? The reason I ask is because in 1886 there were no dollars produced at the Carson city mint,if it is 1885 that is different and it might be a possible VAM the best thing is to consult the reference on Morgan dollars but this coin might also have die chatter where a coin in the minting process when struck the die vibrates and a second slight image of certain parts of the coin appear
