Question
Hi,
I was given a 1905 quarter eagle liberty head gold coin that, to my untrained eye, looks to be in perfect condition.  I am having trouble getting estimates of this coin's value.  Would you be able to shed some light?
Thank so much,
Ellie

Answer
Hi,

#1 would be to make sure it is authentic.  Many gold coins have been counterfitted over the past few decades.  #2 would be to know the coins grade before giving a value range.  Both of these can be accomplished by taking it to a local coin dealer and having him take a quick look at it.  Or you could send it in to the various coin grading services which charge a fee for grading the coin.  ICG (www.icgcoin.com)  PCGS (www.pcgs.com) and NGC (www.ngccoin.com) are the top grading services.  I hope this helps somewhat.
