Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1909-S Phillipines Peso Proof

Question
I recently purchased a large collection of World coins. In these was a 1909-S Phillipines One Peso. It was marked Proof 60, which I thought the coin had slight rub. Did they make a proof in the 1909-S, and if so what is the approximate value? Thanks, Mark.

Answer
The US Mint did not make a 1909 or a 1909S Proof Peso. They did make Proofs in 1903, 1904, 1905, 1906, 1908 at Philadelphia. They never made any proofs in this series in San Francisco. All the dates do come prooklike except 1908S, so someone not in the know might get fooled, like with prooflike Morgan Dollars. The rim will be curved on a business strike, sharp edge on the proof.
