Question
There is a crack or imperfection (observed through 30x mag)on the obverse across "STATES OF" which also appears the tip of the top of the S is missing.  Is this an error/variety coin?  Does it have value?  Thank You

Answer
Hello Phyllis,

These Die Cracks are normal wear of the die pair. There is no added value for them although some collectors find them very interesting and seek them out.

Although cracks are seen through a 30 power magnification, many are so obvious you only need the naked eye. It was a problem with all dates and mintmarks.

This type of defect is still happening today with modern coins.
