Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1943 Dime

Question
I have a 1943 dime with a "w" on it, but this coin is in color! on the front and I wonder if this means anything and is it worth anything?

Answer
The "W" on the front is actually a monogram of A & W -- the coin designer's (Adolph Weinman) initials, and all Mercury dimes have this on them.

As for color, it it's some kind of paint job, then the coin has been turned into a novelty item, worth maybe a dollar or two.

If it is natural toning (tarnishing of the silver), then it could be worth more to some collectors who look for colorful coins.  I wouldn't expect it to be worth more than about $10 in any case.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
