Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1943 Silver Penny

Question
A friend of mine has a 1943 Silver Penny and I was wondering how you can tell if this is authentic or something that is not worth anything at all.  Thank you very much for your help.

Answer
Hi Sarah,

Your coin is a 1943 cent that was made out of Steel (they were almost all made like this).  The US Mint produced them for one year during WWII to help with the war effort.  In circulated condition they are worth about 10 cents each.
