Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1944 Penny D

Question
What do you think such a penny is worth?

Thank you

Answer
Elizabeth, unless the piece is in excellent uncirculated shape (looks like it was just made -- like one of you 2007 cents looks now), it would only be worth a cent or two.  430 million of them were made in 1944 and that is enough to meet any demand there will ever be for the piece.  If the piece is in really good uncirculated shape (and you cannot improve its condition by cleaning or any other method, you will only devalue it), it could be worth a dollar or a couple of dollars.  Go to www.ebay.com and do a search for 1944 D cent (and 1944 D penny) and you'll probably see some for sale.  If certified by a third party grading service and in a really rare and high grade of uncirculated (say MS66RD or better), then you may see a piece selling for $30 or so.  Jim
