Question -
Hello. I found in pocket change a 1973D dime with the letters LIBER in the word Liberty doubled.
Can you tell me if this is any kind of rarity and what it might be worth?
Sure would appreciate any help.
Thank you,
Gene

Answer -
Hi gene,

It could be a genuine doubled die or a common machine doubling (not worth anything).  It needs to be seen in person by a grading service or reputable dealer to see if it is a real double die.

Hello cameron and thanks for the fast response.
One more questions if I may.
How can I tell whether or not this is real without bringing it to someone?
Is there something I need to look at closley.
It looks like the letters LIBER are restamped.
Thanks again,
Gene

Answer
Hi Gene,

It is actually hard to tell if you arent experienced looking at many double die coins.  Machine doubled coins trick people all the time.  It would be too long to describe here but here is a website you can check out that explains it somewhat and has some pictures for reference:
