Question
Hello,

I cam across your site while in search of information on my 1975 silver-colored penny. It seems like a normal penny in every other way except color. Any ideas?

Thanks. Melissa

Answer
Hi Melissa,

There are a few option here.  Unfortunately, they all require me seeing the coin, or at least more information.
It could be that it is a normal 1975 cent that has been plated with a silver colored metal such as mercury or zinc.
I would need to know what the weight of the coin is in grams to the nearest 100th.  It should weigh 2.5 grams

They did produce experimental aluminum cents in 1974, but they were never release into circulation and later destroyed.
If you have an accurate gram scale, or can take it to a jeweler who could weigh it, let me know what it weighs.
You can email me directly at JoeHylas@aol.com
