Question
I got this penny in some change from the store. The penny is a 1976 d. what is strange is on the face side above the word liberty there is a stamped outline of the Liberty bell crack and all, and above the 1976 is an outline of the United states. with USA stamped in the middle. The images are very clear, definitely not something done after can you help me out?  thanks

Answer
Hi Rick,

Those two images were manually added to a normal coin, after it left the Mint -- somebody took a normal coin and stamped those images into it.

I have seen many of these coins attached to cards that list informational historical facts about the U.S.

On the card, they sell for a couple dollars -- by themself, only about a quarter.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
