Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1979 U.S copper quarter

Question
I have a 1979 U.S copper quarter. Is it worth anything?

Answer
Hi Jose,

It sounds like your quarter is either missing the outer clad layer (geunine mint error) or could be struck on a wrong planchet blank (also genuine error).  It could also be treated outside the mint with acid or another substance to remove the outer clad layer and then would be worth only a quarter.  The only way to tell is to weigh the coin and see it in person.
