Question
Hi my dad gave me a roll of what looked like quarters but they  say "One dollar" on it. One side has the eagle and "One dollar" and the other side is the head of a woman and says 1979. Just wondering if these are worth anything? Thanks so much!

Answer
Hello Silvia,

Sounds like the Susan B. Anthony Dollar.  If so it may only be worth face value. They are still available in Mint State grades.

The Susan B. Anthony was made in 1979 to 1981 and again in 1999. They were made at all three mints. The whole set consists of 11 circulation coins and 4 proof specimen coins.

At present they are only collected in Mint State Grade by collectors at this time.

The Anthony dollars sell at face value up to 1.50  for circulated coins with no wear or scratches. Only Mint State, Proof or type coins sell higher. Worn circulated coins are traded at face value so it is alright to spend them. In Mint Grades 63 to 66 they sell above face value from $2 to $5 each.
If your coins are fresh from a bank and do not exhibit wear you can hang on to them and hand them down to the next generation.
