Question
I have a 1983 penny in which the number 8 is smaller than the other numbers. Is it something special?

Answer
Hello Jill,

I do not think your coin is something special.
There are many variables in the minting process but more in this date cent.
The composition was changed in 1982 and the dies were slightly altered as well.
One die change did make the 8 look much smaller than the 9 next to it.

If you need someone to look at the coin write me again with your location.
