Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1990 Lincoln Penny - Not copper plated

Question
I am a coin collector who has several 1943 "steel" cents and have found a 1990 Penny which looks like the '43's. It is in excellent condition and doesn't sound like a copper penny does when dropped on the countertop. Just curious if this is an oddity or maybe doesn't have the copper plating. Can you tell me anything about this.

Thanks, Charles Garrett

Answer
Hi Charles,

It sounds like your cent is missing the outer clad layer.  This makes it look like the 43 steels you were talking about.  It is a fairly common error coin but they are still worth $40-80 or more depending upon the coins condition.
