Coin and Paper Money Collecting/$20 bill
Expert: PAPAJACK - 10/2/2007
QuestionQUESTION: I have 1928 $20 bill , "B" series. The signatures are: Treasurer of the US is N.O. WO... something and Secretary of Treasury is A.W.Mellon.
Please, advise what value does it have today. It is in good condition
ANSWER: Hello Gale,
The main Grades are Very FINE, EXTRA FINE and CRISP UNCIRCULATED. I am guessing yours are Uncirculated. They are still plentiful and available to collectors and this keeps the price low.
The United States Paper Money Guide from 2003 lists a series 1928B $20 Federal Reserve note signed by Woods and Mellon with a range from $30 to 40 dollars in very fine grade. And ranges in value from $40 to $60 in extra fine grade.
In Crisp Uncirculated grade it ranges from $60 to $300 dollars in value depending on what Federal Reserve Bank it was issued to.
If it has a star * in the serial number it is valued higher.

IT HAS NO * AND IT WAS ISSUED BY NEW YORK FEDERAL RESERVE.
THANK YOU, AGAIN FOR YOUR ANSWER (IN ADVANCE).
GALE.
AnswerHello again Gale,
Thank you for getting back to me on this question.
Then the values listed though higher than those usually obtained are correct. United States Paper Money Guide from 2003 for a 1928B New York $20 Federal Reserve Note signed by Woods and Mellon with a value of $40 dollars in Very Fine grade. And a value of $50 in extra fine grade.
The New York issue Crisp Uncirculated value is listed as $140. This would have never been folded or discolored.
A dealer and most collectors will give less than this retail level value. To get these prices you need to find a collector that is missing that particular issue.
Thank You and Good Luck
