Coin and Paper Money Collecting/$20 coin

Question
Hi
I would like to ask you how do I know the real value of a coin.
My Dad collects coins and by reading a book he read about one of the coins he has to be very expensive.  We believe he has the $20 Ultra high Relief pattern, MCMVII.
We want to know where can we go to get an appraisal. And who knows maybe if we are right maybe sell it in a auction.
I'll appreciate your help.

Thanks,

Natalia A. Betancur

Answer
Hi Natalie,
Chances are that if your dad has a high relief 1907  St. Gaudens that it is NOT the pattern coin.  However, Roman Numeral High Relief $20's are quite rare and expensive.  I have paid between $5,000 and $45,000 for nice examples.
If you can photograph the coin and send me a picture, I will see what I can determine.  Send Picture to OMEGAPM@aol.com
