Coin and Paper Money Collecting/2002 quarter

Question
I have a 2002 Louisiana state quarter shiny silver on one side (George Washington side) and appears to be a light gold color on the other. Is this from a set or is this a printing error? Thanks

Answer
Hello Rane,

This is not a mint error unless it is made from the gold colored dollar blank.

This is usually a contamination from the elements. Many cleaning solutions and even paint fumes can discolor the nickel coating on these coins.
However, there have been private enterprises coloring the state quarters for sale. Many are gold plated on all surfaces.
This does not add value to the coin at all it is only a novelty. Collectors want the coins as the US Mint made them in the pristine condition possible.
