Coin and Paper Money Collecting/2007 Type 2 planchet gold coin

QuestionQUESTION: Have a 2007 George Washington type 2 planchet, obtained from a bank roll at a CT bank. No marking on edge or sides.
Valuable?
ANSWER: Hello, Frank, the price on these modern errors will usually vary significantly after they are discovered, depending on how many are found and the demand for them. Right now the new presidential dollar with the edge lettering omitted seems to be selling in the $100+ range. Go to www.ebay.com and do a search for 2007 Washington dollar no edge lettering and you will see over 100 of them for sale. The price seems to have come down since they were first discovered, probably because quite a few of this error are being found. Hope this helped, Jim Lawniczak

QUESTION: Just to be clear, it is completely blank. Wasn't sure if you thought it just had no edge lettering. Does that make a difference? Thanks for your reply.
AnswerSorry, Frank, the edge not struck is so up front now that I assumed (incorrectly) that that was what you were talking about. There are blank planchets for other denominations and they do have a premium, but in other denominations they don't have real substantial value as they are not in a lot of demand and not all that scarce. But the Washington dollar is new and the market seems now to love these. They are selling in the $400 range (with a pretty wide range). Please go to www.ebay.com and do a search for blank planchet dollar. There are 15 items for the presidential dollar and one for the Peace dollar. The bids on some are over $500 with multiple bids. The Peace dollar is going for $50 and I'd have thought that was the more valuable. As more of these are found (and I think they will be), I would suspect (though no one ever knows for sure) that the price will come down. For comparison do a search for blank planchet cent and you'll see those selling for under $10 (they are pretty common and demand these days after 100s of years of cent production is pretty light).
